We all know what it’s like to recover from an injury. Broken bones, sprains and pulls can be painful and frustrating but with the right treatment and rest we usually recover pretty quickly.
But what happens when someone breaks your heart, a loved one passes unexpectedly or you suffer a bout of depression. These “injuries” can’t be healed with antibiotics and splints. It takes inner healing to remedy our emotional scars and with the right attitude and outlook, you can begin to nurse your wounded feelings.
You can live life without ever letting your defenses down and always keeping your guard up, but that will prove to be very lonely. In order to get the most out of life we have to be willing to expose our true selves and unfortunately that means being vulnerable and sometimes being hurt. Falling out of love, losing a close friend and moving away from home can be very traumatic events that can affect every aspect of your life. In some cases emotional pain can lead to physical ailments. When we are hurt emotionally, and it will happen, we need to accept the truth, adjust our thinking and begin to heal from within.
A cut is easy to fix. You disinfect and bandage the wound. In time the skin heals and you’re all set. But with emotional pain it takes a much different form of therapy to recover. Healing a broken heart may be one of the hardest things to do but it is not impossible. It takes a lot of strength, confidence and even faith to repair emotions that have been abused, neglected or taken advantage of.
Unfortunately not even the most accomplished doctor or surgeon can heal your feelings. That requires a soul search that will reveal to you what happened, why it affected you the way it did and what you need to do to get past the pain. We all heal inside at our own pace and no one can force you to get over emotional pain. It takes time and patience but once you overcome the heartache you emerge a much stronger person.
